Vbase Chairman Tim Scandrett believes the restored Christchurch Town Hall will put the city firmly back on the international stage.

“Our commitment to returning the Town Hall to its rightful place among the top ranks of acoustically outstanding concert halls will be fulfilled with the reopening early next year,” Mr Scandrett says.

“The investment that has gone into Christchurch Town Hall over the past few years will pay dividends long term as we draw the best performers to the venue and hundreds of thousands of visitors to our city.

“We already have 24 events booked for next year with hundreds more in the wings. Some of the confirmed acts, world renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma for example, are choosing to come to Christchurch over anywhere else as the Town Hall is considered to be one of the 10 best places for acoustics in the world.

“The Town Hall will once again be centre stage in Christchurch’s reborn cultural hub.

Mr Scandrett says the Christchurch Town Hall is one of the city’s most high-profile, and much loved, buildings and the steps taken to restore it and bring it up to modern standards will ensure it continues to occupy pride of place for many years to come.

“It is now stronger, and, indeed, fine-tuned for a marvellous opening season,” he says. “It has been a, sometimes, challenging journey but the final result will be well worth the wait.”
