VBASE VENUES BACK IN BUSINESS All four event venues owned and managed by Vbase have been cleared of structural damage following the Christchurch earthquake, opening the doors for business as usual. AMI Stadium and CBS Canterbury Arena have passed the inspection of structural engineers over the past two days. Christchurch Convention Centre and the Town Hall for Performing Arts were earlier confirmed to be free of any structural damage from Saturday's earthquake. Work on minor repairs and clean-up at AMI Stadium and CBS Canterbury Arena has now commenced and the clean-up of the Convention Centre and Town Hall is continuing. Vbase CEO Bryan Pearson says that work is taking longer than expected, but all four venues would be open over the next few days. The Convention Centre and Town Hall would open from Sunday September 12 and AMI Stadium and CBS Canterbury Arena the following day. All services at the four venues, including electricity, water and toilets, have been fully restored. The playing surface at AMI Stadium, which will host seven games at Rugby World Cup 2011 was not affected. Mr Pearson says Vbase is back in business and looking forward to hosting some great events over the coming weeks and months. He acknowledged the tremendous efforts of staff who within an hour of the earthquake were on site making preliminary assessments of the impact on the venues. "Our focus at all times has been on the health and safety of our staff, clients, guests and anyone who visits any of our venues," Mr Pearson says. "Vbase is returning to business as usual thanks to the efforts of staff, engineers and a comprehensive crisis response." |

Presented by: Christchurch Symphony Orchestra Lamb & Hayward Masterworks Series Presented by the Christchurch City Choir and the CSO, this programme of moving, powerful and sacred works by some of the most celebrated French composers, will be a feast of choral splendour. After having returned to Roman Catholicism in the 1930's, Poulenc produced a steady flow of religious choral work including Gloria. The Requiem was not composed to the memory of a specific person but, in Faure's words, or the pleasure of it'; it was long unknown that the work took over 20 years to assume its present form. Sacred music at its best but also completely French in style are Charpentier's four extant settings of Te Deum.
